A KIND-hearted volunteer who was honoured by meeting the Queen is now helping to organise a street party for the royal wedding.

Nora Williams, 67, of Thomas Street, Flint, and residents in the surrounding area, will be hosting the family-friendly event in honour of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.

And Nora, a former manager at a seafood factory in Greenfield, is looking to bolster community spirit after she spoke to the Queen as reward for her tireless work running after-school clubs and litter picks.

She said: “I met the Queen in Llandudno last year for the volunteer work I do with children. I was nominated by Flintshire Local Voluntary Council.

“I spoke with the Queen and she was beautiful. When I spoke to her she asked me what I did and I told her I worked with children and then she told me to keep up the work.

“I am a big royal family fan. I like them.”

The happy couple are set to tie the knot at Westminster Abbey with celebrations planned to mark the event being held across the country.

Nora said: “William and Kate are a lovely couple. They are so homely and I am really happy for them. With meeting William’s grandmother I have to organise a party.

“We think we are going to get about 60 children and their parents. As long as people are from the area they can turn up.

“We will have a bouncy castle and a disco. We are asking for about 50p per child to help pay for it.

“There is a very strong community spirit in the area. We are all friends really.”

Nora also helped organise a street party for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.

She said: “That was fantastic. We had tables all along the street. We need to have one for community spirit.

“We are keeping the tradition alive.

“It really cheers people up. We are really looking forward to it.

“We are going to decorate the street with flags and bunting.”

A spokesman for Flintshire Council said: “Anyone who is interested in arranging a street party can contact the council’s Streetworks section on 01352 704806 for further advice and guidance.”
