TRIBUTES have been paid to a “fantastic” mother-of-two who died in a car crash.

Joanne Lisa Hill, 39, was pronounced dead on Saturday evening at the scene of a two-car collision on the A5118 at Padeswood near Buckley.

Joanne, who lived on Lon yr Orsaf in Mold, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Yesterday her parents, who live on Bryn Garmon in Mold, were too upset to speak but friends and neighbours paid tribute.

Craig Wynne, who was friends with Joanne’s brother, Jason, when he was younger, said: “She was a nice person who always spoke to me even though I’d not seen her for a while. She was a good mum. She was always quiet and polite.”

He said Joanne also had a sister, Louise, and two children, believed to be aged 19 and 15.

Mold councillor Carolyn Cattermoul’s grand-daughter attends Alun School in Mold with Joanne’s daughter.

She said: “My grand-daughter has been in the same year right through nursery and secondary school as Joanne’s daughter.

“It’s very upsetting. It’s so sad that this girl has been left without a mum. I can’t imagine how she’s feeling.

“They’re going to be devastated at the school. It’s such a tragedy.”

A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The crash happened at about 8.20pm on Saturday evening on the outskirts of Padeswood and involved a silver Volvo and a red Vauxhall Corsa.

Yesterday flowers were gathering at the site of the crash. One read: “Joe rest in peace, always thinking of you, Chantelle.”

Ambulance and fire crews were called to the collision and the road was closed until 3am on Sunday while police carried out investigations.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to call them on 101.

A spokesman for the North-East Wales Coroner’s Office said a post-mortem was due to be carried out today.
