A CONCERT will be held in memory of a young mother who lost her battle against cancer last year.

Vikki Purslow, of Coedpoeth, died at Nightingale House Hospital in September just four months after being diagnosed with the disease.

When she learnt she only had months to live the 27-year-old set herself the challenge of fundraising and managed to raise more than £33,000 for charity.

Now the Fron Male Voice Choir and other guest artists will take part in a concert at St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury, in memory of Vikki, who was born in Shrewsbury and also lived in Whitchurch, Market Drayton and eventually Coedpoeth.

Proceeds from the concert, which will be held at 7.30pm on Saturday, May 14, will be split between Nightingale House Hospice where Vikki died and a Shrewsbury charity called Fresh Start New Beginnings (FSNB).

Vikki is survived by husband Matt, who she married in May, 2010, and children, Amelie, six and one-year-old Cleo.

Matt now spends his time caring for the children and said: “Vikki is sadly missed but I think more than anything she would be so proud of how the girls are growing up.”

Vikki, who taught violin at Music Land in Market Drayton, made videos, books and journals for her children to remember her by.

Matt continued: “It’s great to do this in memory of Vikki but we wanted to space out the fundraising events as it’s not all about the money – it’s about the effort people make and remembering her.”

Vikki’s grandfather Dave Jones helped organise the event and said: “Vikki has got a lot of relatives around Shrewsbury and Mid Wales so we thought it would be nice to give them the opportunity to support something in her memory.”

Speaking about life since Vikki, Mr Jones said: “We have to get on with life but Vikki is in our thoughts a lot.

“She always will be for the rest of our lives.”

In July last year Vikki organised a walk up Snowdon which raised £30,000, and a fun day in Coedpoeth in August which also brought in about £3,000.

All the money was split between Nightingale House, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Willow Foundation.

Matt hopes the walk up Snowdon will become an annual event held the day after Vikki’s birthday, June 5.
