A PETITION is to be handed in tomorrow in a bid to save a town library.

Queensferry Library is one of five under threat of closure as Flintshire Council looks to cut services to help make £10 million in savings in next year’s budget.

The petition to save the library, situated at John Summers High School, is to be handed to Carl Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, who will then submit it to Flintshire Council.

“There’s been lots of support to keep this facility open,” said Queensferry Councillor David Wisinger.

“If the library is closed it will be depriving people who can’t afford books and computers. These are the people we should be helping.”

The petition is still being passed round residents in Queensferry this week in a bid to collect last minute signatures.

Mr Wisinger said he was unsure at this stage how many signatures had been collected to date.

Petitions have also been started to save Bagillt, Garden City and Halkyn libraries as angry residents make their feelings known.

Mr Sargeant said: “The local community is very much against the proposals, hundreds of people will be affected and I feel it’s nothing short of cultural
vandalism to even consider closing these valuable public assets.”
