A WOMAN has thanked the “guardian angel” who pulled her to safety after her jeep flipped over four times as it plummeted several feet into a ditch.

School administrator Trudi Meincken, 40, was driving to work at Ysgol Rhiwabon when her Jeep Cherokee slid on an icy road.

Terrified Trudi recalls driving on the A539 from Erbistock to Ruabon at about 8.30am when the jeep hit an icy stretch near to the Wynnstay estate. It rolled over four times before landing upside down in a ditch.

Not long before, a van had crashed nearby on the same section of road and Trudi was trying to avoid colliding with him.

Luckily Tom Smith, from Oswestry, had already stopped on the road nearby to help the man whose van had veered off the same section of road.

Tom rushed to help Trudi who was trying to escape from the vehicle which had landed upside down in a stream.

“I can remember getting my seatbelt undone and shouting for help and trying to think how to get out,” she said.

“I noticed the water and didn’t know whether I was going to sink or whether the car would go on fire.

“I tried to get out of the window but couldn’t. Tom crawled through the vehicle and he helped me out and sat me down on the side of the road.

“He was fantastic and he must have been my guardian angel.

“I’m so thankful that he was there to help me.” Luckily, Trudi escaped with only minor injuries, including cuts to her right hand, bruising and a loss of feeling in her right hand.

“Tom helped me phone my husband. Obviously I was in shock and very shaken up,” she said.

Police, fire and ambulance were called to the scene on Thursday morning.

As a precaution, Trudi was taken on a spinal board to Wrexham Maelor Hospital where she was checked over.
