A NEWLY-unveiled masterplan offers an exciting glimpse of the future for a town centre, community leaders say .

The proposals for Buckley including improving the High Street, strengthening the local economy, improving leisure and community facilities and the overall look of the town and attracting a second supermarket.

Cllr Ron Hampson said: “There is a lot of interest in the plan and it is very exciting.

“This is a five or 10-year plan but we need to move very quickly on a supermarket.

“We need to give any developer coming in all the help we can in the planning process and speed it up as quickly as possible. I am very pleased with the plans.

“There is a great deal of interest and excitement in the town. It’s really building up.”

Proposals include a ‘leisure quarter’ on Mold Road, which could become one-way, a regular market and a relocation of the library, which could result in an expansion of the precinct.

The plans, developed by Urban Practitioners for Flintshire Council and Buckley Town Partnership, are now on show at Buckley Library.

Anthony Benson, a director at Urban Practitioners, said the plans could put Buckley on the map.

Town councillor John Thornton is urging the public to view the plans and have their say.

He said: “The people in the past, have been neglected. Councils have gone ahead with schemes without consultation, but Buckley Town Council believes in consultation.

“This is an exciting time for Buckley. What we need are services. We need shops to come in and we need a second supermarket.”

Views on the plan are being sought until January 31.

A spokesman for Flintshire Council said: “The information being presented at the public consultation relates to the whole town centre, along with three suggested options specifically in regard to proposals for the Precinct Way area of the town.

“This consultation will show graphically how the town could be improved over a 10-year period.“
