A TEENAGER, heartbroken following the break-up of her relationship, jumped to her death from an aqueduct.

Amy Louise Wright, from Rhos, fell 120ft from Pontcysyllte Aqueduct hours after her boyfriend said he wanted to end their six-month relationship.

The 19-year-old care worker was devastated when 23-year-old Kenneth Prandle told her he needed space, an inquest heard yesterday.

Members of Miss Wright’s family gathered at Flint Magistrates’ Court to hear the details of her death.

Her twin sister Carys told the hearing: “Amy loved Ken to bits and wanted to be with him all of the time.

“When we went on holiday to Devon she was texting him and ringing him constantly.

“He was her soulmate. She would have done anything for him.”

Miss Wright’s death on September 3 was a shock to family and friends who had no indication she was unhappy.

Sister Carys added: “Something didn’t add up that day. She phoned me an hour before and said she would pick me up to go to Ken’s house for an Indian takeaway.

“I was lying in bed waiting for her to come and get me and there was a bang on the door, but it was the police.

“The next minute I had to identify her.”

Mr Prandle said that the relationship was becoming too much for him and he needed some time apart.

A statement read out in court said: “Amy didn’t mind me going out with mates but would rather I spent more time with her.

“Our relationship was getting a bit too much and I needed some space. I went to work and started thinking about things and sent her a text message saying I didn’t want to be with her anymore.

“She called me 11 times. Then she turned up at work crying but I told her I wanted to be alone.

“She told me I was breaking her heart and said she would kill herself.

“I told her not to be so silly.”

A text message on Miss Wright’s phone to Mr Prandle before her death read: “If I can’t have you I don’t want to be here anymore. Thanks for the best six months of my life.”

Miss Wright, a former pupil of Ysgol Rhos and Ysgol y Grango, left school at 16 and took a two-year BTEC Diploma in public services at Yale College.

She worked at Liquid nightclub in Wrexham before she became a full-time carer with Always There Homecare on Wrexham Business Park.

She was a keen netball player and a member of the Rhos platoon of the Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force and travelled to Malta with the cadets for training and also learned to play the drums.

Members of Riversway Elim Church in Shrewsbury were taking a boat trip along the aqueduct when they witnessed the fall.

Parishioner Robert Clover said: “I saw a young girl walking across the bridge looking over the side. She stopped and placed some items on the floor which I saw were a set of keys and a mobile phone.

“Then she climbed over the railings and let go. I was extremely shocked at the time.”

Miss Wright’s car was later found parked near the aqueduct.

A post-mortem examination revealed Miss Wright died from multiple injuries.

Recording a verdict of suicide, Kirit Champaneria, deputy assistant coroner for North East Wales, said: “I don’t think any of us can really understand the pain that is caused when one’s love is unrequited.

“Different people cope in different ways and some people don’t cope at all.”
