A MUM is having her head shaved to raise funds for the centre where she stayed while her young son received life-saving medical treatment.

Jeanette Batty, 27, of Johnstown, says the support she received from everyone at Ronald McDonald House in Liverpool was outstanding.

She stayed there in November 2009 while her son, Mason, had heart surgery at neighbouring Alder Hey Hospital.

“At the New Year I felt that I wanted to do something different and what better way than to raise money for Ronald McDonald House,” explained Jeanette

“People get so much support when staying there.

“You can talk to other relatives who have children receiving treatment at Alder Hey as patients and that is very important. It helps so much because we can all understand what everyone is going through.”

Jeanette is delighted that her friend, Lisa Davenport, also from Johnstown, has agreed to have her head shaved as well.

“That is just so kind of her, I think it is marvellous and I appreciate it so much.

“I really do want to thank Lisa,” said Jeanette.

The friends are featured on the Just Giving website and will undertake the headshave when £2,000 has been pledged for the fundraiser.

Jeanette said that Mason, who is now aged two, was born with a serious heart condition and has undergone extensive medical treatment, including being on life support.

But despite facing so many problems at such a young age, he is making good progress and is always very brave.

Mason will need further surgery at a later date.

He is due to have a scan at Alder Hey next week so that doctors can monitor him.

Jeanette thanked everyone who has already made pledges to support the fundraiser and hopes many more will join in to reach the £2,000 target.
