THE snowy weather which started to fall early this morning has caused plenty of problems for children and parents trying to get to school.

Two schools - Froncysyllte CP and Ysgol y Grango in Rhos - were forced to close due to the treacherous condition as the Arctic chill returned to the area.

In Flintshire, several schools have been forced to close this morning due to heavy snowfall.

Nercwys Primary School, near Mold, has also been forced to close early due to the weather conditions.

Ysgol Parc Y Llan, Treuddyn, made the decision due to difficult driving conditions and to help ensure children have a safe journey home.

Another school finishing early is Cornist Park School, Flint, which has announced it will be closing at 1pm after an early lunch due to the weather.

Another school to impose an early finish is Ysgol Maes Edwin, Flint Mountain.

The school has also announced it will not be providing meals today.

In addition to the brace of reported closures there were plenty of other schools issuing warnings about the difficulties being caused by the weather.

Hanmer Voluntary Aided warned visitors should be careful of the road from Penley because of the snow.

Minera Voluntary Aided School said it was open, but issued a plea for children and parents to take care as the roads and pavements were covered with snow.

A statement added: “We have run out of salt so please take care on the playground as you come into school.”

At Penycae Community Primary the warning was to be careful approaching both sites as the roads were very slippy, particularly Copperas Hill.

Ysgol ID Hooson CP in Rhos said care was needed in the school car park.

St Peter's Voluntary Controlled School in Rossett asked people to enter by either the nursery door or the main entrance. They should not go around the back on to the playground.
