A WOMAN has been made an MBE in the New Year Honours List for her dedicated work with a number of charities over many years.

Sheila Warner, 66, has been most closely involved with Nightingale House Hospice, Wrexham, with which she has been a volunteer for the past 15 years.

During that time she has helped with a range of tasks, including fundraising, collections and even manning the reception desk one day a week.

Mrs Warner also successfully ran a hospice support group based in Gwersyllt, where she lives, for a number of years.

For the past 10 years she has been a member of the Wrexham Maelor Hospital League of Friends, helping with fundraising, the organisation of events and serving in its shop in the hospital foyer.

She is also a member of the Wrexham friends’ committee of Hope House Hospices based in Morda, Oswestry.

Mrs Warner spent her early years in Hanmer where her parents, Walter and Ruby Kennerley, ran the Hanmer Arms when it was both a pub and a farm.

For 25 years until her retirement, her job was Young Farmers county organiser, first for Flintshire and then Clwyd.

It is for her services to the agricultural community that she has also been awarded the MBE .

For many years she has been closely involved with the Denbigh and Flint Show and has been chosen as its president next year. She is also chairman of the sponsorship committee of the Young Farmers movement in Clwyd.

Mrs Warner, who is married to Terry, said: “I first became involved with Nightingale House Hospice because there was nowhere like that for my father to be cared for before he died of cancer.

“I am over the moon about being awarded the MBE. I just can’t believe it.

“It’s absolutely fantastic and I’m very honoured and humbled because I don’t think I deserve it.”
