A LEAKING pipe has left water pouring through a street for more than three weeks.

The leak on the junction of Liverpool Road and Church Road in Buckley has rendered pavements dangerously icy and the nearby common like a “bog”, says Buckley Mountain councillor Carol Ellis.

The problem was first reported to suppliers Welsh Water on December 6 but is yet to be rectified.

Cllr Ellis is calling for urgent action before somebody is hurt.

She said: “I have been inundated with complaints because the road is like an ice rink.

“It’s like a river and it won’t stop running. The water freezes overnight which causes a hell of a lot of problems for drivers and pedestrians.

“The common is like a bog and the water is running down the road and on to the land.

“I’m concerned that if it doesn’t get sorted soon then somebody could get hurt. The workers have been doing the best they can do deal with it but it took them two weeks to get here in the first place and they stopped working on it on Christmas Eve and it’s still leaking.

“Ultimately it is Welsh Water’s responsibility and they are being very poor.”

A spokesman for Welsh Water said: “We are aware of a leak on our network in Buckley.

“We have already had a team working at the site to establish the source of the leak. However, these initial investigations were not able to trace its exact location.

“While we have been unable to continue with the repair work over recent weeks due to the adverse weather conditions, we have been continuing with investigative work to help us understand the likely location of the leak.

“No supplies are affected as a result of the leak and we are committed to ensuring it is repaired as soon as possible.”

Cllr Ellis is now calling on highways chiefs at Flintshire Council to repair the pavements, which have been scarred with potholes and cracks.

She added: “I know it is not their fault but something should really be done about the state of the footpaths.

“I think they need to be replaced altogether.”

Steve Jones, head of Streetscene at Flintshire Council, said: “The ice which had formed as a result of the leak has been removed by the council and the situation will be monitored over the holiday period.

“The footpath will be repaired once the leak has been permanently repaired.”
