A FATHER has died after developing flu-like symptoms just 10 days after he got married.

Martin Clorley, 37, married the love of his life Nicola Bartley, 39, on December 16.

Just two days later the dad to Imogen, four, Ella, 16 months and stepdaughter Darryl, 18, fell ill with flu symptoms.

His condition worsened on Christmas Day and Nicola called an out-of-hours medical service who spoke to Martin and advised him to rest.

But by 5am on Boxing Day Martin, a traffic management engineer, deteriorated and he was taken by ambulance to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital where he later died.

Post-mortem examination results into how Martin died are expected to be released today but Nicola said that knowing how he died will not help.

Nicola, who works at the chemist in Coedpoeth, said: “How can somebody get the flu and then be dead? He was a healthy person.

“I want answers but really, nothing will help.

“The only thing that would help would be for him to walk through the door.”

Nicola and Martin, who have been together for 12 years, married at Wrexham Register Office on December 16.

Martin had finished work for Lux Traffic Management in Rhos for two weeks the day before and was looking forward to a family Christmas.

Martin, who is from Nantwich, met Nicola when they both worked together at Hi-Mark on Wrexham Industrial Estate.

“I’ve got a pile of wedding cards and another pile of sympathy cards,” said Nicola.

“It’s like it’s not real. It’s just like I’m talking about someone else.

“It’s so cruel that he won’t see his daughters growing up.

“I miss him terribly.”

Paying tribute to him, stepdaughter Darryl said he was a “brilliant” father figure who had helped her a great deal.

Martin had also booked a surprise holiday to Majorca for the whole family for June.

Nicola said: “He was lovely and would do anything for the children. He was a real family man.

“He would never see us do without and he loved his kids.

“His mates said he was a fantastic lad.

“He was quite loud and the house feels so quiet without him.

“I don’t want Christmas again but you have to for the kids.”

Martin also followed Manchester United and loved going to watch the games with his nephew Jack.

He leaves his mum and dad Jacqueline and Tim, his twin sisters Becky and Maxine and sister Joanne and his grandfather, Roy.

He is also survived by nephew Jack, nieces Sophie and Katie and Nicola’s family – her mum and dad Gill and Phil and brothers Ross and Paul Bartley.
