A YOUNG man from Wrexham who had sex with an underage girl has been sentenced to two years youth custody.

Mold Crown Court heard Damien Lee Jones was 18 when he indulged in sex acts with the child, including full unprotected sex.

Jones, now 20, of Tower View, admitted three charges of sexual activity with a child.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Judge Niclas Parry ordered him to register with the police as a sex offender for a decade.

The judge told Jones he had sexually abused a child for his own sexual gratification.

“You did not use contraception, knowing full well how young she was,” the judge told him.

Judge Parry accepted there had been no violence, threats and coercion and he would receive full credit for his guilty plea.

Andrew Green, defending, said Jones was young himself at the time of the offences.

The number of occasions that sex occurred was limited but it was accepted it was a very serious matter and custody was inevitable.

Jones was a young man who had difficulty coming to terms with the loss of his father and with handling alcohol. He was immature.

He received an additional six months for his involvement in an affray.

Co-defendant Nathan Scott, 19, of Caia Park, Wrexham, received 12 months.

Both had denied attempting to rob a pizza delivery man but had admitted the affray.

Nicholas Williams, defending, said Jones had not threatened the complainant directly.

Jones, said Mr Williams, was not proud of his behaviour.

Judge Parry described it as persistent and thuggish behaviour.

Their victim was a pizza delivery man who was trying to provide a service in what was a low-paid job.

For his trouble he encountered the defendants who were acting in a cowardly fashion.

At one stage there were four people goading him and damaging his car.

“This was gratuitous pleasure seeking at his expense,” the judge said.
