A WOMAN has died after the car she was driving was in collision with a bus near Chirk.

The collision occurred at around 7.40am yesterday on the B4500 at Pontfadog.

Both Wrexham and Denbighshire Council say the bus was on a school run on its way to pick up pupils to take them to Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen, but there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.

The woman, who has not yet been named, was driving a Citroen Saxo when it was in a collision with a single decker bus.

The ambulance service has confirmed she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A North Wales Police spokeswoman said the driver of the bus is not believed to have sustained injury.

The B4500 between Chirk and Pontfadog was closed throughout the day with diversion routes put in place.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire Service said two appliances were called to the scene following reports of a collision and the driver of the car being trapped.

Firefighters administered oxygen to the driver of the bus.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said one ambulance attended the crash.

“A female was declared deceased at the scene,” he added.

Cllr Barbara Roberts, the ward member for the Ceiriog Valley on Wrexham Council, said people throughout the area had been deeply upset at the tragedy.

“We are a close knit community and this is terrible news. Everyone is feeling shocked about what has happened,” she said.
