STAFF and residents at a newly refurbished care home are eagerly awaiting a visit from actor Ricky Tomlinson.

The Royle Family star will officially unveil the improvements to Cherry Tree Care Home in Coedpoeth, the actor’s home village, on Tuesday, December 21 at 11.30am.

The home has undergone major renovations since January, with an increase from 17 to 37 beds.

Cherry Tree specialises in looking after residents with dementia and has Elderly Mental Health status.

A George Formby tribute band will provide entertainment at the reopening.

Cherry Tree manager Debbie Davies said: “We know Ricky likes to do the banjo so we thought he would like the band.

“We’re over the moon Ricky is coming to visit and are really looking forward to it.”

Additions to the home include a sensory room and gardens, a sports bar and new kitchen. Most rooms also now have an ensuite bathroom.
