A WOMAN who was killed after being struck by a train has been named.

The body of Helen Littler, 46, of Glynne Way, Hawarden, was discovered alongside the railway on December 6 near the Slack Lane road bridge, Pentrobin.

She died after being struck by the 5.34pm Arriva Trains Wales Wrexham to Bidston train.

The tragedy caused disruption to rail services with the line temporarily closed before being handed back to Network Rail at 7.30pm the same day.

Alternative road transport was provided for passengers while the line was temporarily closed following the incident.

Villagers expressed their sadness at Ms Littler’s death.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told the Leader: “She was a very private person who kept herself to herself.

“I spent a lot of time with her a few years ago and she was bubbly and happy but we haven’t really spoken of late. “My deepest sympathies go to her family.”

Hawarden councillor Clive Carver added: “It is particularly sad to hear at this time of year about someone dying in this way.

“It is very sad for the people they leave behind, such as their families.

“I would like to express my sympathies to the family, who this is sure to have come as a shock to.”

A postmortem on Ms Littler was carried out on Wednesday ahead of formal identification.

An inquest has now been opened and adjourned by the coroner for North East Wales, John Hughes.

British Transport Police are not treating the woman’s death as suspicious.
