A COUPLE face a bleak Christmas after burglars ransacked their home while they slept upstairs.

Rosalyn Oldfield, 32, and Stuart Borman, 33, of Rhosddu Road, Wrexham, were targeted on Wednesday night.

The burglars smashed down the back door and stole £150 they had saved to buy Christmas presents and also stole thousands of pounds worth of electrical goods including a 42inch Sony TV, a Sony laptop and a Fuji camera containing treasured photographs.

Two expensive North Face coats and a pair of Adidas trainers were also taken.
The couple say the most heartbreaking thing is losing four years worth of precious photographs that were on the camera and laptop.

A distraught Rosalyn said: “Photographs from my dad’s wedding in August were on there and I’ve lost all my photographs from the last four years and that’s what I’m most upset about.

“A TV is a TV, but it’s the fact that they have been into my house and taken all my personal things.”

The couple did not hear a thing.

Rosalyn added: “The thing that has shocked us the most is that we didn’t hear anything.

“I got up at about 7.20am and discovered the mess. There was glass everywhere. They have smashed in the back door and taken absolutely everything.

“When we realised what had happened we just felt sheer panic – it has ruined our Christmas.”

Police officers called to the address found a bamboo stick close to the house with a hook attached to it and it is suspected the raiders were intending to use it to hook the keys through the letter box.

“That isn’t how they got into our house, but they were obviously thinking about it,” added Rosalyn.

“We just want to warn people not to leave their keys anywhere near the door.”

Following the burglary Wrexham town centre Inspector Alex Goss is urging people to be extra vigilant in the run-up to Christmas.

He said: “We want members of the public to follow some basic crime prevention guidelines and make sure their property and valuables are secure and reduce the risk of becoming victims of crime.

“At this time of the year in particular items such as mobile phones, laptops, gifts, cash, credit/debit cards, are prime targets for thieves and every precaution should be taken to look after your things.”

Anybody who has any information regarding the incident or anybody offered any of the items for sale should call North Wales Police on 101.
