THE driver of one of five heavy goods vehicles involved in a horrific crash this morning (Friday, December 10) is fighting for his life in hospital.
The accident happened on the A483 just inside the Cheshire boundary, south of the Post House roundabout on the Wrexham-bound carriageway at 7.30am.
The injured man was freed from his cab by firefighters from Cheshire and North Wales using heavy cutting equipment before being flown to Aintree Hospital on Merseyside.
The incident caused massive disruption to traffic.
Cheshire Police said a section of road between the Belgrave roundabout and the Rossett interchange would remain closed until the vehicles involved had been recovered.
They included one carrying livestock which received only slight damage and the animals were contained in the vehicle.
Police said trucks carrying cement and tarmac were also involved.
It is not known at this stage which vehicle the injured man had been driving.
Cheshire Police say as and when more information becomes available there will be updates at www.cheshire.police.uk
