PEOPLE are being urged to have their say on a proposed new law on education in Wales.

A committee chaired by North Wales AM Mark Isherwood is considering the Education (Wales) Measure.

If approved it would put in place powers aimed at increasing collaboration between education institutions and improving school governance.

It would also seek to prevent the establishment of any new foundation schools.

Mr Isherwood said: “Education is an issue that affects people all over Wales.

"This proposed Measure could bring about a number of significant changes which could impact on the running of our education institutions.

"As such, it is an important piece of proposed legislation."

The closing date for consultation is January 5.

Mr Isherwood said: “We are conscious that consulting over the Christmas period is undesirable and that the deadline for responses is particularly challenging.

“However, given that this will be the only opportunity interested parties will have to comment on the proposed Measure, we urge as many people as possible to submit their views."

The consultation survey can be accessed here and evidence can also be submitted to the Clerk of the Legislation Committee No.5, the National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, CF99 1NA.
