A COMMUNITY will be providing increased play opportunities for youngsters in the Christmas holidays after new facilities were opened.

New swings and roundabouts have been installed on Bradshaw Avenue playing fields, Saltney, along with resurfacing work to help increase the attractiveness of the site.

The £20,000 development has been made possible thanks to Saltney Town Council and Flintshire Council working together to secure the required funding to help bring the work to light.

Saltney Town councillor Richard Lloyd said: “It is very pleasing the facilities are now in use and the youngsters who live here can use them.

“This has shown what can be achieved when the county council and town council work together.”

Alan Thorniley, Saltney town clerk, also welcomed the developments at the long-established site.

He said: “We are very pleased at the work that has been carried out and to have provided funding for it.

“We hope the youngsters who live here will appreciate the facilities that are in place, such as in the Christmas holidays in a few weeks.

“It is a shame the weather has been so bad just as they become available to use, but hopefully they will be used a lot when the weather improves.”

Cllr Klaus Armstrong-Braun, the Flintshire Council ward member, added: “This equipment is for teenagers and it will be challenging, exciting and fun.

“It provides constructive activities for youngsters and it was good to see several of them enjoying themselves when I visited.”

Funding was provided by Saltney Town Council and Flintshire Council.
