A YOUNG man suffered serious head injuries after his car was in a collision with a DAF skip lorry.

The man, believed to be in his late 20s, was driving a red Fiat when he was involved in the collision near the Gredington Arms on Holt Road, Llanypwll, yesterday morning.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “The driver of the Fiat was trapped in the vehicle and was freed by the fire service.

“The driver, who is believed to be in his late 20s, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.”

Emergency services arrived at the scene at about 11.20am when firefighters had to cut the man free from his car.

A spokeswoman from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to release the man.

“It was a life critical extraction as the casualty had been impacted by a HGV,” the spokeswoman said.

The Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “A young male was initially trapped in the car. He was taken with serious head injuries to the Wrexham
Maelor.”

North Wales police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or have any information to contact officers at the Eastern Roads Policing on 101 if calling in Wales.
