A BELLY dancer and Moroccan-themed menu helped an Overton woman to secure victory on hit TV show Come Dine With Me.

The Channel 4 programme sees four people pitting their dinner party skills against one another over the course of a week to land a £1,000 cash prize.

The all-Wrexham edition, filmed almost two years ago and screened on Friday, featured mature student James Stevens from Penycae, horse-mad Maria Wynne from Penley, nurse Steve Housego of Chirk and surgeon’s assistant Nadine Leese from Overton.

The winner was Nadine, who also runs her own business in the field of clinical aesthetics.

One of her secret weapons was a professional belly dancer who gyrated away before the Moroccan-style evening in her own home.

She served champagne cocktails laced with wild hibiscus flowers from her native Australia before a menu of homemade Moroccan dips, jewelled lamb, figs and Moroccan biscuits.

The meal and the warm conversation accompanying it was enough to win her first place and £1,000.

After the episode was screened, Nadine said: “It’s lovely to have done so well.

“The programme included four very different individuals but I think everybody had a very nice week of filming.

“It’s always good to meet people from different lines of work with different ideas about life.”

She added: “I have already donated some of the £1,000 prize money to the appeal to maintain the historic yew trees at St Mary’s Church in Overton.

“I am a keen cook and if another programme came up involving cookery it would be something I would be interested in doing.”
