DEAN SAUNDERS is hoping a decent sized crowd will help cheer Wrexham into the play-off positions tomorrow.

Currently seventh in the table, Wrexham will climb into the top-five if they secure victory over Mansfield Town – and if other results go their way.

Saunders says supporters can play their part in helping Wrexham record another home victory following last week’s success against Darlington.

“Hopefully we get a good crowd,” he said. “We have only lost one league game this season – against AFC Wimbledon – and that is probably the best we have played. We have been doing well and we have got to keep the momentum going.

“The crowd are getting behind the team at the moment which is brilliant. We could do with everyone coming and getting behind us again.

“Bigger crowds help the team and the fans definitely helped us get the late goal to beat Darlington last week.”

As well as trying to continue Wrexham’s promotion bid, Saunders is hoping to put a spanner in Mansfield’s own push for the play-off places.

“We were able to push Darlington down as well as go up ourselves,” he said. “Now we are able to do the same to Mansfield.

“We have to start with fight in us and stop our opponents playing well. And hopefully our talented players will shine through after we win the fight.”

Saunders is not planning on many changes tomorrow, admitting: “As a manager you try not to make many changes but sometimes you have to.

“I have got players who can play in other positions so I will look at it.”

Striker Marc Williams, who scored three goals during a three-month loan spell at Kidderminster, has returned to The Racecourse and is in the squad.

“Marc will be involved,” said Saunders. “He had a bad injury and was out for a long time so I wanted him to play games.

“It wasn’t as many as I hoped but he has played the last five or six and is fit, so he has got to play and perform for us now.”

Andy Mangan moved to joint leading scorer on four goals with fellow frontmen Andy Morrell and Gareth Taylor with his brace against Darlington and Saunders believes there is more to come from his strikers.

“Andy stepped up last week and got two, that’s what I wanted from him,” said Saunders. “I said it won’t be long before the front three are all banging them in.”

Christian Smith will not be in line for a return tomorrow as he has joined Conference rivals Newport County on loan until January.
