THE long wait is over – Wrexham’s episode of Come Dine With Me will be served up tomorrow (Friday, November 26).

The cult Channel 4 show was filmed in the town nearly two years ago but was pulled from the schedule for a last-minute edit.

Now the skills of four dinner party hosts – James Stevens of Penycae, Nadine Leese from Overton, Maria Wynne from Penley, and Steve Housego of Chirk – will be shown to millions of viewers.

And it promises to be an explosive episode, with Channel 4 describing the hour-long show in the tongue-in-cheek style familiar to regular viewers.

“First to host is horse-mad Maria Wynne, who’s decided that the best way to impress is have a semi-clad butler serve drinks.

“Nurse Steve Housego gets a little hot under the collar in one way, and mature student James Stevens in quite another.

“Also competing is surgeon’s assistant Nadine Leese, in a week that features a furry invasion, tears before bedtime and a few home truths.”

The episode, narrated by sharp-tongued Dave Lamb, was filmed in December 2008.

All the contestants have remained tight lipped about who was crowned the winning dinner party host to claim a £1,000 prize.

But there was much disappointment when the screening was postponed in the summer of 2009, especially for Steve who feels responsible for the delay.

He said: “On one of the evenings we were asking each other which celebrity we would like to be and I said Farrah Fawcett.

“At the time nobody knew she was ill, but then she sadly died around the time the show was due to be shown, so Channel 4 decided to pull it.”

Steve, who has since moved to Ellesmere, says he is excited to finally see the show.

He said: “I’m having a ‘Come Dine With Me’ party to celebrate with a few close friends coming over to watch it, and then the night after our local pub will be showing it.”

Maria, who runs her own public relations and marketing firm, said of the filming: “It’s not easy when you have a camera crew asking you to do the same thing over and over and keep everyone entertained at the same time.

“On top of that the days are really long and we never finished before 2am.”

But she added: “I’ve made some good friends through the show and I’m looking forward to seeing it on TV.”

James said he was also looking forward to the screening.

“It’s been so long since I filmed it, it will just be a relief for people to stop asking me when it’s due to be shown,” he said.

“It will be interesting to watch the first dinner because we all had a lot to drink – I can’t really remember that one.”

And Nadine described the experience as like having “four New Year’s Eves in a row”.

She added: “We were all quite tired by the end of the week.

“It was an interesting experience and it provided an insight into how television programmes are made.

“It makes you very aware of how filming can be edited into soundbites and situations manipulated.

“I’m going to be watching it with some friends.”

To see the four battle it out, tune in to Channel 4 at 8pm tomorrow.
