A TRUCK-pull in honour of a football club stalwart has raised vital funds for charity.

Players, family and friends took part in the 10-mile challenge in memory of Keith Molyneux, 52, of Wellington Street, Shotton, who died in September after an eight-week battle with cancer.

Almost £1,000 was raised for Cancer Research UK and Keith’s club, Aston Park Rangers FC, after a four-hour effort through Connah’s Quay and Shotton on Sunday.

Club secretary Nigel Brown said players and coaches had been devastated by the loss of Mr Molyneux who had managed the clubs youth sides for a number of years.

He said: “It had its difficult bits and easy bits but we had a good laugh doing it. We were made up with the turn out.

"The youngsters were brilliant.

"They had the pleasure of going round with the buckets.

"We were very proud of them.

“It shows what Keith meant to them and it all goes to show how much of a family club it is and Keith was very big on that.

"That is something we are very proud of at the club.”

Mr Molyneux was associated with the club for 15 years and had been coaching some of the players since they were eight years old.

Dean Ashfield, pictured left, landlord of the Melrose pub, was on the back of the Vauxhall truck in a bath of beans for the duration of the pull.

Mr Brown said the truck pull could become an annual event while other fundraising efforts are also being planned.
