THE family of a man found hanged at a Wrexham beauty spot are asking his friends to help them arrange his funeral.

As reported in the Leader yesterday, Karl Jones, 28, from Hunters Way, Llay, was found dead at Alyn Waters Country Park on Monday afternoon.

Karl’s parents Gareth and Anita Jones said they would like any friends who would like to help at the funeral, which will be held next Tuesday, to come forward.

Mrs Jones said: “We know he had a wide range of friends and would like them to let us know if they would like to do something at the funeral, be it a reading, or if they know a song that he would have wanted.

“I know he wrote some songs himself but we don’t know where they are, we think his friends have them.”

Friends and colleagues have been contacting the Leader to pay tribute to the music lover, who they described as a ‘fantastic guy’ who ‘never had a bad word to say about anyone’.

Stephanie Hallet, 28, from Llay grew up with Karl and went to Llay Infants School and Castell Alun School, Hope, with him.

She said: “We lost touch for several years after school but I bumped into him on a night out about six weeks ago and we shared a joke together.

“I’d been in continuous contact with him since then but then he just disappeared from Facebook.

“He seemed really happy, it was such a shock when I heard what had happened. He joked a lot.”

Liz Ewing, 28, from Llay, said she knew Karl since she was three and went to school and later to Yale College with Karl, where he studied technical theatre.

“He was one of the best lads you could have known,” she said. "He never had a bad word to say about anyone, it’s just so sad.”

“I keep hoping it isn’t true, he was always joking and seemed happy.”

Dai Evison, 45, from Wrexham worked with Karl, and also played in a band with him.

Karl, who was a care worker at Bryntirion, enjoyed music in his spare time and played the drums in several local bands.

“He was really good at his job,” said Dai.

“I’d only seen him a couple of weeks ago. He was a fantastic guy, I can’t believe this has happened.”

Karl’s parents Gareth and Anita Jones said Karl suffered badly from the skin condition psoriasis, which had left him depressed.

Karl leaves sisters Kimberly Moss and Samantha Davies.

A police spokesman said they were called to the park at about 4pm on Monday.

North East Wales coroner John Hughes has been informed and police are not treating Mr Jones’ death as suspicious.

Any friends of Mr Jones who want to contact his family can do so by calling Leader reporter Helen Davies on 01978 355151 who will pass on their details.

Karl’s parents have asked that anyone wanting to contribute to the funeral should contact them by Friday so they can put the service together.

The funeral will take place at 10am next Tuesday, November 23, at Pentre Bychan Crematorium. His father Gareth has requested that mourners attend the funeral in red rather than black as Karl was a big Liverpool fan.
