MOTORISTS face major disruption as a key route into North Wales is closed over the next two weekends.

The A55 Warren Bank interchange improvement work will take place on the A5104 and A55 this weekend, November 13 and 14, and again on the weekend of November 20 and 21.

Resurfacing work on the new roundabouts will result in full closures of the A5104 Mold Road and the westbound on-sliproad and eastbound off-sliproad that connect the A55 with the A5104.

But if the work takes longer than expected another weekend of closures could be required over the weekend of November 27 and 28.

Cllr Peter Pemberton, who represents Broughton South, said the closures could prove painful for motorists but it would prevent the work dragging on any longer.

He said: “It will be closed so they can do the new roundabout and over the bridge.

“If they get bad weather they could need a third weekend to do it. We have got to keep our fingers crossed they can get it done without going into a third weekend.”

Diversions will be put in place during the closures which will run from 6am on Saturday morning to 6pm on Sunday, while assistance with turning manoeuvres will be provided at both the Cherry Dale Road junction and the layby west of Warren Court.

Once finished it is thought there will be no further requirement for the current one-way system over the A55 bridge.

A spokesman for Flintshire Council said: “The Welsh Assembly Government, Flintshire Council and Alun Griffiths Contractors apologise for inconvenience that may be caused to the travelling public during these restrictions and thank you in anticipation of your continued patience and cooperation during the final stages of construction of this project.
