HOPE has been given to more than 250 care home workers, despite uncertainty surrounding the future of their company.

The Southern Care Group, which operates nine homes across North Wales, including Coed Duon in Holywell, and The Whitehouse in Wrexham, entered administration last month.

Administrators PKF have revealed there has been interest in acquiring the nursing homes, which treat about 300 elderly residents.

The business is set to be advertised for sale during the next month.

Joint administrator Jon Newell said: “There have been expressions of interest in the business and we hope there is a buyer out there, but the procedure can take several months to be completed and it could be in the New Year before any takeover is completed.”

Since administrators took over late last month, 15 non-care staff have been laid off at the company’s Abergele headquarters.

But Mr Newell reiterated his original vow to protect care workers and insisted there are no plans for others to be axed.

He added: “We have absolutely no plans to make any care staff redundant and we value the work they are doing.

“We are finding ways to reduce overheads and more effective ways of running the business, but we do not wish to weaken what we have.”

The company also has care homes in Abergele, Prestatyn, St Asaph and Colwyn Bay.
