A WOMAN has spoken of her fears after her cat returned home with a wire around its neck – less than a month after its brother was covered with purple paint.

North Wales Police have launched an appeal for information after the incidents as they seek to discover whether the cats, Motoo and Gin, were targeted intentionally or if someone was setting traps.

Mother-of-two Charlene Bonar, 28, who lives with her partner, Robin Owen, and sons Jack, three, and baby Harry, four months, in Bron Haul, Bagillt, said: “Motoo came home with the wire around his neck.

“Thankfully he was OK and it hadn’t gone into his flesh, but it could have been worse.

“It’s happened so quickly after Gin was sprayed. After Motoo came home with the wire around his neck, I felt I had to go to the police and I hope we can find out information on who is behind this.

“Hopefully somebody knows who is doing this. We had never had anything like this before and now it’s happened twice in a month.”

The paint-spraying incident involving ginger-coloured Gin happened on October 11.

Although the paint has now cleared and Gin continues to venture outdoors, Charlene, who owns a third cat, Marley, six, told the Leader she was still concerned for her pets.

She added: “The situation with the cats is worrying. Because of what’s happened, I am wary of letting the cats go out again, but the way they are as animals means you cannot stop them going out.

“It’s what they like doing, but I am now worried there might be a time when they don’t come back.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information. We don't know yet whether these cats were targeted purposely or if someone is setting traps. If anyone knows of any illegal traps that are being set up then please contact police.”

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 101 or 0845 6071002.
