YOUNG Jack Jones has been sharing top tips with his football team-mates after training with Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard.

Jack Jones, 11, of Maesydre, Wrexham, got to meet the star after winning a competition run by the Leader in conjunction with the Football Association Tesco Skills Programme.

Now he is getting to show off his new skills to his footy mates at Borras Park Albion.

Jack, a pupil at Ysgol Bodhyfryd in Hightown, trained with Lampard at the Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Centre in Surrey, along with about 40 other children who had also won a competition. He also enjoyed a brief meeting with the player and got him to sign a T-shirt.

Jack’s mother, Kerry Burns, said: “Jack’s quite shy but Frank said ‘all right mate’ to him. He was really made up.

“It was really busy with kids so I think it was hard for Frank to chat to everyone.”

Jack is an avid football fan and supports Wrexham Football Club and other teams including Chelsea and Manchester United.

On the day Lampard also announced a drive to provide 4.7 million places on football skills courses by 2014 for five-11 year olds.

The FA Tesco Skills Programme has already provided two million places on football skills courses.

The Cheslea star, an ambassador for the programme since it started in 2007, said: “The importance of good grassroots coaching for children cannot be underestimated.

“I remember practising my skills over and over as a youngster and that has helped me reach the top.

“Whatever your ability, The FA Tesco Skills Programme will help make you a better player.”
