CALLS have been made to resite a lamp-post which blocks the path of people in wheelchairs or elderly people on scooters.
Saltney councillor Klaus Armstrong-Braun said people could be forced onto the road as a result of the positioning of a lamp-post in the centre of a pavement on Saltney Ferry Road.
“Instead of being put at the side it’s right in the middle of the path,” said Cllr Armstrong-Braun.
“It’s dangerous and a problem for people in wheelchairs or elderly people on scooters. They may be forced onto the road which could lead to an accident.”
The lamp-post is sited on the Maes Wen development in Saltney Ferry and is owned and maintained by Saltney Town Council, but covered by negotiations with the developer by Flintshire County Council (FCC).
The concerned councillor says he has reported the lamp-post to FCC’s highways department.
Neal Cockerton, head of assets and transportation at FCC, said the county council “have stipulated there is a requirement to resite the column to the rear of the newly constructed footpath”.
He added: “Until the developer has signed the agreement and offered the site for adoption by the county council we cannot enforce the resiting of the column.
“However, county council officers have spoken to the developer who has agreed to resite the column prior to adoption but the work has not yet been carried out.”
