POLICE are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a woman on the streets of Wrexham.

The 50-year-old victim was on her way to a taxi rank on Abbot Street where it is believed she met the offender, a man in his mid-40s.

Police understand the offender walked with the victim away from the town centre before she was seriously sexually assaulted.

The victim was found in a distressed state on Park Avenue at about 3am on Saturday.

She was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital where she received treatment for cuts and bruises.

The offender is described as white, in his mid 40s and of medium build with short, dark, graded hair.

He is believed to have been wearing a black leather jacket and may have had a moustache.

Detective Inspector Arwyn Jones said: “This was a particularly nasty and distressing attack and we would appeal to the public to help us to find the offender.

“I would like to reassure the public that incidents like this are extremely rare in the Wrexham area and North Wales Police are appealing to anyone with information, however insignificant they may consider it to be, to contact detectives at Wrexham CID.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Abbott Street or Park Avenue between 11.30pm on Friday October 29 and 4am on October 30 to get in touch.”
