THIS is the scene which shocked shoppers yesterday afternoon.

The Leader was contacted by concerned visitors to the ASDA superstore in Queensferry who saw the damaged lamp-post leaning heavily to one side on the entrance to the store car park.

As concerns mounted about the potential dangers Flintshire Council workers arrived and removed the damaged post.

The post was spotted by shopper Susan Jones, of Green Lane, Shotton.

Speaking before it was pulled down, she said: “It is very dangerous and about to collapse any minute. Someone is going to get killed. I would like it sorted as soon as possible. Nobody has done anything about it. There are a lot of kids there and people with prams.”

She said she had contacted Flintshire Council and North Wales Police.

A spokesman for Flintshire Council said: “At 3pm yesterday we received a report that a county council maintained lamp column sited at the entrance to ASDA Queensferry had been damaged.

“Highways staff were sent to the site with a view to removing the damaged lamp column."
