TRIBUTES have been paid to a Deeside motorcyclist who died after an accident.

John Hemmings, 54, died after an accident on a Mold Road bend between Northop and Connah’s Quay on Saturday morning.

Mr Hemmings, of Red Hall Avenue, Connah’s Quay, died after the crash, which also involved a car containing a man and woman, both aged 51.

All three were taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital Accident and Emgergency Unit.

Friend Ray Woolley, from Connah’s Quay, paid tribute to Mr Hemmings.

He told the Leader: “John was a great lad and was friends with everybody.

“I was devastated to hear of his death. It was just such a shock. He will be very sadly missed.”

Yesterday, as flowers started to gather at the crash scene, Connah’s Quay councillor Bernie Attridge called on highway chiefs at Flintshire Council to re-examine the dangerous country lane which has been the location for a number of serious accidents and at least one fatality.

Cllr Attridge said: “The warning signs on that road are clearly not enough because another life has been claimed.

“We need to have a closer look at what traffic measures could be installed to prevent another tragic death like this one.

“My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family at this sad time.”

A full investigation has been launched by police who will reconstruct the scene in the coming days to determine the circumstances of the crash.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “Police were informed by ambulance crews of the crash in which a motorcyclist sadly died.

“The driver and front passenger of a car were taken to hospital and released after treatment for minor injuries.

“A police investigation is now under way and we would encourage anyone with information to get in touch.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service added: “We were called to a road traffic collision on Saturday at 11am on the road between Northop and Connah’s Quay.

“Two casualties from a car, a male and female aged 51, were taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

“The motorcyclist suffered cardiac arrest and was also transported to the Countess of Chester Hospital.”

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to call the non-emergency police number on 101 or 0845 6071002.

It is the second fatal motorcycle collision in Flintshire in a month.

On September 26 Russell James Green, 45 of Neston, Wirral, died following a crash on the A550 Tinkersdale Road in Hawarden.

Police have renewed their appeal for information. Call 101 or 0845 6071002 if you can help.
