GWYN Evans Leisure and Activity Centre in Gwersyllt has reopened following a £750,000 facelift.

The Gwersyllt centre, with its 25 metre, four lane swimming pool, has been closed since last December to allow a programme of major improvements.

This has included the building of a new first floor to house a state-of-the-art tssechnogym suite, an improved spectator area to seat 100 as well as an upgraded reception area, kitchen, teaching room and extended car park.

The work was part of continuous improvements being made to council-managed leisure centres in the area, with Wrexham’s Queensway complex currently undergoing a smaller scale revamp.

The opening was eagerly anticipated as the centre provides a number of services and activities to the local community and schools, including swimming lessons, sports hall and court rental and fitness classes.

The new-look centre now offers 50 plus circuit training, pilates, family splash nights, birthday parties and aerobics.

Cllr Bob Dutton, lead member for communities and performance, said: “Gwyn Evans is an excellent local community facility and with the recent refurbishment it stands out as one of the leading sporting excellence centres in the area that Gwersyllt can be proud of.”

To celebrate the completion of the improvements, the centre is running a free induction promotion for the first 100 customers who sign up for a Pure fitness membership package, giving a one-off saving of £25.

The Pure membership can also be used at any participating facility in the area.
