CHILDREN have been celebrating the launch of a range of new stamps telling the story of one of the world’s best-loved bears.
The children at Busy Bees Nursery, Ewloe, got a preview of the Winnie-the-Pooh collection ahead of the stamps going on sale yesterday.
Fiona Godgear, deputy manager at the nursery, said the children were thrilled and had been running their own post office.
She said: “It was perfect timing. They post their own letters, put stamps on and they have been down to the real post office to collect items.
“The stamps went down really well. They were really excited. They had Winnie-the-Pooh teddies and stories to finish the day off.”
Royal Mail issued the 10-stamp collection to celebrate the universal appeal of the “hunny”-loving character, famously created by AA Milne for his son, Christopher Robin in 1926.
Original illustrations from the original Pooh stories Winnie-the-Pooh, The House at Pooh Corner and book of verse Now We Are Six feature in the collection.
Pooh takes centre stage, but is joined by his pals Christopher Robin, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, Owl and Tigger.
Disney is releasing a new animated feature film starring the bear and his friends in April next year.
