THEY might have ended the day tired and covered in mud but almost 100 children thoroughly enjoyed a military challenge day at a Wrexham school.

Ten teams of Year 10 students at Rhosnesni High School were on parade for the day-long event on Monday which was organised by soldiers from the Wrexham careers office to help build confidence and stamina.

From 9am-3pm, the youngsters were put through their paces with a gruelling series of tests and obstacle courses.

There were also problem-solving sessions and the chance for those taking part to try their hand at leading their teams.

Twelve Wrexham schools are due to hold similar challenges over the next week or so and their total scores from the event will be totalled up by the army team who will then compile a league table of how they fared.

Angela Taylor, a teacher at Rhosnesni High School, said: “The feedback from the children who took part was that they enjoyed the challenge very much.

“They ended up covered in mud and were very tired but they had a good laugh.
“We were also very lucky with the weather, which stayed fine for us.”

She added: “We have taken part in this kind of challenge for the past few years and we thank Major Rick Kalewski and his team for organising the day.”
