THE devastated friends of a Wrexham teenager who died suddenly this week are planning a lasting tribute in her memory at her former school.

Katie Wright, 16, who was studying for AS levels at Yale College, became unwell on Monday as she was travelling on a bus along Dean Road, close to her home in Borras Park.

Despite the efforts of paramedics she died later at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Since news of the tragedy broke nearly 2,000 people have joined three Facebook tribute sites set up in her memory.

On Tuesday former classmates from her year group at St Joseph’s RC School in Wrexham, received specialist counselling to help them cope with her sudden loss.

The school is now looking at possible lasting tributes to Katie, a girl who was said to have lit up any room she entered.

Maria Rimmer, headteacher at St Joseph’s said: “We have a very strong parent teacher association at the school and when they met on Tuesday night they began considering the possibility of a lasting memorial to Katie.

“Although discussions are at a very early stage, what they might have in mind
would be a Katie Wright Trophy which would be awarded to people showing the kind of attributes that she had.

“Pupils who are members of the school council will also be thinking of their own lasting memorial to Katie. This might be a bench or a tree.

“A tree would mark the change of the seasons of the year.

“However, it is very early days and it is important that members of the council make their own decisions.”

Pupils at St Joseph’s also said prayers for Katie on Tuesday and spent time in quiet reflection, guided by the school chaplain.

Katie’s father was too upset to speak about the tragedy yesterday morning.

Among the Facebook tributes to Katie were: “Katie, I’ve known you since i was little and to hear that you are gone was the worst news ever. I’Il miss you forever and love you until the day we are together again. Rest in peace my angel. Everyone will miss you. God bless, Georgia Lush”.

Liz Lindsay said: “For some things there are no words, only shoulders to lean on, hands to hold, and hugs to comfort. RIP Katie, you will be missed. Our thoughts are with your family.”

Jessica Young said: “Katie I love you so much, you were such an amazing friend. We will all remember your smile. God bless.”

Rebecca Czerniak wrote: “Katie I'm so sorry I never told you how amazing you were. Rest in peace my angel. You made everyone so proud.”

Tom Curtin added: “You really didn’t deserve it. I keep pinching myself as if this is one big nightmare and I wake up back to our normal routine but unfortunately it isn’t. I miss you so much.”
