A BUSINESSMAN has set his sights on becoming the next Alan Sugar.

Brian McManus, who owns textile recycling firm Dee-tex in Saltney, has been nominated for two awards in a top entrepreneur competition.

The non-profit organisation collects unwanted clothing from across the county and sells it on to support local charities.

Brian is in the running for the Best Entrepreneurial Charity and Against All Odds awards in the Morgan Foundation Entrepreneur Awards and is thrilled to have been nominated.

“To receive recognition from other organisations within the social sector is a major achievement for Dee-tex,” he said.

“We are a local community business that has had a massive impact locally with the jobs we have created, the services we deliver and the people with whom we work.

“We can only continue to achieve with the support of the local community and we have been overwhelmed by the level of support locally.”

Lucky winners will win a share of a £110,000 prize plus a package of professional services.

Other categories are Best New Business, Best Young Entrepreneur and Best Business Providing an Economic or Social Contribution to the Region.

Competition judge and Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman Steve Morgan said:
“The first round judges have a difficult task, the final panel an even tougher one.

“The standard is extremely high so the judges need to really understand the businesses and the entrepreneurs behind them before we can decide who will lift the prizes.”

Winners will be announced at the Carden Park Hotel, near Chester, on November 11.
