DENBIGH ace Mark Webster is continuing to beat the best players in the world of darts - but his first PDC title still eludes him.

The 2008 Lakeside World Professional Darts champion claimed some notable scalps in two weekend tournaments in Ireland, but he failed to make it beyond the fourth round in either event.

In Sunday’s Players’ Championship competition at Dublin’s Citywest Hotel, Webster enjoyed a fine win over world ranked number three and former Premier League champion James Wade, while a day earlier he saw off the challenge of the Flying Scotsman Gary Anderson in the third round.

Saturday’s Players’ Championship event opened with two comfortable 6-1 Webster wins in the opening stages, against Henry Zapata and Mick McGowan.

Then came the victory over Anderson by a 6-4 margin, but the Denbigh star’s run came to an end in round four with a 6-3 reverse at the hands of Dutchman Co Stompe.

Simon Whitlock won the tournament - his fifth Players’ Championship title of 2010 - with a 6-1 final defeat of Dennis Priestley.

In Sunday’s competition, Webster had to be at his best from the off to beat the dangerous Roland Scholten 6-4 in round one, and things were more comfortable courtesy of the 6-1 triumph over Dave Ladley in the next round.

Then came the notable 6-3 third round triumph against fellow left-hander Wade, however his run was ended by Wayne Jones (6-4) in the fourth round.
