NEIL YOUNG today revealed he had added former Wrexham centre half Gareth Evans to his squad.

The Chester boss secured the signature of 23-year-old Evans after Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Prescot Cables and is now awaiting international clearance for the player.

The Wrexham-born player made 25 appearances for his home-town club between 2004 and 2009 before joining USL First Division club, Austin Aztex, in February 2009, and then returning to Britain for a brief spell at Vauxhall Motors.

Evans then signed for USL Division Two club, Real Maryland Monarchs, earlier this year and made 17 appearances.

But the player’s return to Britain a Young who is aiming to include Evans in Wednesday’s Division One North league match at Witton Albion.

Young, who believes ex-Chester City defender Rob Marsh-Evans will return to Southport after having talks with the Blues boss, confirmed that Evans would be part of the Chester squad until March when he is scheduled to return to the United States.

Young said: “Gareth Evans has agreed to join us. We are just awaiting international clearance and if that arrives then he’ll play for us on Wednesday.

“At the end of the day we need players to show a desire to come to the club, although I understand lads have got to look after themselves financially. Though I think we’ve made Rob a good offer.

“Gareth signed forms for us after Saturday’s match and I feel he will be a good acquisition for the squad.”

Former FC United of Manchester striker, Kyle Wilson, has also signed for Chester, but was an unused substitute for Saturday’s match against Prescot Cables.

Admitting he had been disappointed with his side’s performance at the weekend, Young said: “It was very frustrating, but I don’t think we did enough in the second half to win the game. There were too many stop-starts in the first half, but we enjoyed a lot of the ball and we passed it well, but Prescot kept a decent shape.

“I know that people have been crying out for wingers, but I thought we had enough of the ball when we brought the wingers on, but I don’t think it made much of a difference.

“I think at times we maybe have to go a bit more direct than we did. But one or two of our lads thought they could just turn up and the three points would be put in the bag, but you don’t just turn up in this league and win games.

“There are a lot of proud teams in our league and non more than Prescot Cables who came here and got what they wanted and could possibly have got more.

“We kept the ball and passed it around in the first half, and I could sense the crowd were getting a bit frustrated, but we haven’t got the right to beat teams.

“I thought we were a little bit more open in the second half, but that’s what happens when you put two wingers on. We went out to win the game but came away with a draw.”

Chester are likely to be without Chris Williams for Wednesday’s trip to Witton, he suffered a tight hamstring during the early stages of Saturday’s match and was substituted by Stuart Graves.
