A PLAN to cope with flooding in the Dee estuary is being put to the public.

Proposals have been drawn up following a major consultation by Environment Agency Wales, as well as technical analysis and predictions for sea level rises.

They recommend all properties in the area should be protected to their current standard or better by maintaining, improving or realigning existing defences.

Long-term solutions over the next 100 years include work to prepare for more frequent flooding.

Meic Davies, North Wales flood risk manager for Environment Agency Wales, said: “Climate change is happening, which means sea levels will rise and coastal communities will be placed at greater risk of flooding from the sea.

“We must agree how we can adapt, control, improve and generally prepare the area.

“Input from local people is a vital part of that process.”

Information boards, summary leaflets and feedback forms will be on display at Flint Library until December 27.

The plan can also be viewed at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/dee.

Flintshire Council has its own management plan for the area.
