A JEWELLERY shop was open for business yesterday less than 24 hours after masked robbers raided the premises.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the daylight robbery at Sheila Williams Jewellers in Mold.

A number of items where stolen and two terrified members of staff were taken to hospital after a noxious substance was sprayed at them.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of the Wrexham Street area between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday is urged to contact detectives.

Det Insp Alun Oldfield, who is leading the investigation, said: “The robbery happened at a very busy time of the day when many parents would have been picking up their children from school.

“There is a good chance that people may have seen the offenders in the vicinity of Wrexham Street or making their way from Sheila Williams Jewellers Shop towards the Co-Operative shop following the robbery.”

Despite the two staff being taken to hospital, no serious injuries were sustained in the incident, but workers were described as being left “shocked”.

Det Insp Oldfield said: “The two offenders are described as being in their 20s. Both had covered their faces during the raid, one with a red scarf.

“They were both described as wearing dark coats, baseball caps and hoods. One was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms.”

A police spokesman said work is still going on to establish what goods were stolen from the shop.

The incident was attended by two ambulance crews and several police vehicles were also seen outside the store as the area surrounding Wrexham Street came to a standstill.

Anyone with information is asked to call Mold CID on the non emergency 101 number.
