NEIL ASHTON admitted Wrexham are beginning a tough series of games but the left-back is still looking for a healthy amount of points in their quest for promotion.

Wrexham face Grimsby tonight and travel to Darlington on Saturday, before back-to-back home matches against Fleetwood and AFC Wimbledon.

And although he knows the quartet of matches will be a good test, Ashton believes Wrexham have nothing to fear, saying: “Saturday’s game against Histon was very physical, the likes Fleetwood coming up might be a little bit different where there is more passing and movement. We have got to adapt to each game accordingly.

“Teams below us have to suffer along the way and we have to beat them to get where we want to be. But the top teams like Grimsby, ex-Football League clubs, we have got to look to beat them as well.

“They will be tough games but as a squad we have also got ex-league players who have got more experience.

“We have got to look at every game individually and take as many points as we can, then we will be in the thick of it at the end of the season.”

And Ashton said confidence is high in the Wrexham camp after their unbeaten run: “We are eight games unbeaten with two wins on the back of that,” added Ashton. “It has put us towards the right end of the table and given the lads a boost in confidence and belief going into a tough run of games.

“If we can get as many points as possible out of the four games we will be in the thick of it by the end of October – but they will be tough games.

“We know what we are capable of  and where we should be at the end of the season. Everyone expects us to be fighting for the championship.”
