A FAMILY of gipsies facing eviction  have vowed not to give up their home without a fight.

Travellers living at the unauthorised campsite off Daisy Lane, Rossett are refusing to leave the site that they own.

Last year a planning inspectorate ruled the travellers could not stay on the land because of the flood risk and gave them 12 months to move. The deadline is now up, but they are refusing to budge.

Lisa Evans, a Romany gipsy, said it would be heartbreaking if they had to go.

“We are doing no harm to anybody,” she said.

“I’m married and we have five of our children going to St Peter’s School where they are very happy, getting a good education and have lots of friends. My youngest child will be starting nursery early next year.

“Where is the sense in uprooting us and making us go to live on the roadside. We will fight any attempt to close this site.”

Rossett councillor Hugh Jones said people living at the Rossett site had been offered accommodation at Ruthin Road so they would not be made homeless.

But Miss Evans said she could not relocate to the established site on Ruthin Road as it was unsuitable for her family.

Cllr Jones is now calling on council bosses to evict the gipsies.

Lawrence Isted, Wrexham Council’s chief planning officer, said: “The occupiers have regrettably not left the site within the time allowed them by the planning appeal inspector.

“The planning department is now taking the appropriate course of legal action. Members of the planning committee will receive legal advice at their next meeting regarding this action and they can then decide if alternative or additional action could and should be taken.”
