THOUSANDS of people relaxing in sunshine under brilliant blue skies, soaking up the atmosphere of an event showcasing a vast array of gorgeous food and drink.

It might sound like an idealised description of France at its finest – but actually, this was the scene that greeted visitors to Mold over the weekend.

The town’s food and drink festival, held in New Street, was hailed an outstanding success by committee chairman John Les Tomos.

He said: “We have been delighted at the response from members of the public and from the stall holders.

“On Saturday we had 6,000 people coming in and by early Sunday afternoon we had 5,000.
That shows just how much interest there is.”

The festival site was packed with traders selling produce including meats, cheeses, vegetables, savouries, confectionery, drinks, cakes and desserts.

Other attractions included menus offering cuisine from around the world, cookery demonstrations and live music.

Visitors could also expand their culinary horizons at stalls offering more unusual choices such as buffalo, ostrich and kangaroo meat.

Mr Tomos thanked everyone who had put in a great deal of hard work and effort to ensure the festival went so well.

He added that after months of preparation, the icing on the cake had been the beautiful weather.
