A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in a road crash this afternoon (Sunday, September 26).

The male rider was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the A550 at Tinkersdale, Hawarden, shortly after 2pm.

Two other people were taken to hospital by ambulance following the incident, which involved a motorbike and two cars.

Investigating police officers were planning for the A550 to be closed over the rest of Sunday between the A55 roundabout and the junction with the B5125.

An appeal has been made for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said it was alerted to the incident at 2.10pm.

He added: “Three ambulances and a duty officer attended.

“The male motorcyclist was declared deceased at the scene."

“Two patients were taken to the Maelor hospital in Wrexham suffering from shock and minor injuries.”

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue said the service assisted at the scene. The road was cordoned off at both ends and police forensic experts could be seen working on the roadside.

A convoy of vehicles were present including council highway vans, police cars and a transporter pick up lorry – together with a damaged Vauxhall, Rover and Triumph motorbike.

Cllr Clive Carver, Flintshire councillor for Hawarden ward, said it was terrible for the community to hear of a fatality taking place. He said: “This is a tragic loss which is so sad. There have been a few accidents over the years along that stretch of road but without knowing the full circumstances of what happened it is impossible to comment further.”
