COUNCIL chiefs have spoken out to dispel fears that a primary school will close.
Wrexham Council says no decision has been taken on the future of Tanyfron School after parents expressed concerns there were proposals to close it.
A meeting for parents has been organised which will look at education provision in Brymbo and Tanyfron.
However, the meeting has prompted fears the school will close.
One worried mum, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “We have received the letter about the meeting and are deeply worried about what is going to happen. We like Tanyfron very much. It is well run and an important part of the community.
“We recognise the population of the area is growing and are not opposed to the building of a new school in Brymbo, but we want Ysgol Tanyfron to continue.
“We would urge as many school parents as possible to attend the meeting and make their feelings known.”
John Davies, the council’s chief learning and achievement officer, said: “A meeting has been arranged, in consultation with the school’s head teacher and the chair of governors, for parents, staff and governors to have an open and honest discussion about a range of options that might impact on the future of the school before any proposals are considered by the council.
“It is important that everyone has the opportunity to have their say on the matter.
“Consultations will focus very much on what the community would think was best in terms of the future of education. At this early stage we are there to listen and take ideas on board.”
The meeting takes place on Monday.
