MYSTERY surrounds the death of a teenager who collapsed and died suddenly at his  home.

An inquest heard how Tristan Morrison, of Station Road, Bangor-on-Dee, was pronounced dead at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on August 25 last year, little more than an hour after he had been relaxing at home.

A 19-year-old trainee electrician at Electromec in Wrexham, he had spent the day at work and was downloading a film on his computer shortly before he collapsed just after 8pm.

In a written statement Mr Morrison was described by his father Stephen as being a “fit and healthy lad”.

He said: “One minute he was fine and laughing, the next he was slumped on the chair and gasping. His eyes were opened but were not focused.”

Although his mum Julie attempted to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at 9.15pm after being rushed to hospital.

The month before his death Mr Morrison had been involved in a road traffic collision in Kinnerton.

Home office pathologist Brian Rodgers, who carried out a post-mortem examination on Mr Morrison, said there was no indication that the impact of the crash had played a part in his death.

Dr Rodgers added Mr Morrison had shown no signs of using alcohol or drugs or suffered any infections. He believed the cause was likely to have been an “electrical problem with the heart”.

The inquest heard how in the weeks leading up to his death the teenager had complained of feeling sick and his family had seen him being sick without obvious explanation.

His medical reports showed he had rarely needed treatment, other than in infancy and after being hit on the head by a football in 2006.

John Hughes, coroner for North East Wales, said Mr Morrison died from natural causes and recorded a verdict of a sudden unexplained cardiac death.

Mrs Morrison told the inquest: “He was such a larger than life character. We cannot help but laugh when we think of him.”

Speaking outside the hearing Mrs Morrison said the family are still “totally devastated” by the loss and wished to thank her son’s friends for their continued support.
