SECURITY cameras have been installed at Wrexham FC’s training ground after footballs were stolen.

Thieves broke into the ground at Colliers Park, Gresford on Tuesday of last week before stealing 70 children’s footballs and two goal nets worth £1,500.

It follows two other break-ins at the club over the last month where a life-saving defibrillator worth £1,500 was stolen and personal items belonging to manager Dean Saunders were also taken.

The training ground buildings have also been subject to vandalism including smashed windows, a smashed tap and using cutters to break into the gate to the ground.

Wrexham FC owner Geoff Moss branded the break-ins a disgrace and said they would be working closely with police to find the culprits.

“We have put up CCTV cameras last week and have given footage from last Tuesday for police to look at,” he said.

“It’s disappointing that anyone could steal children’s footballs, it’s a disgrace.”

The club’s head of youth, Andy Davies, said: “We have got to fork out for new balls and the kids weren’t able to train on the evening.

“It’s extremely disappointing for the children.

“If anyone has any information please get in touch with police.”

The footballs are described as Umbro and black and white.

“We don’t want this to happen again and have the CCTV up now,” Andy added.
